Cabras is located approximately 7km from Oristano on the West coast of Sardinia. One of the best local festivals (there are many) is the barefoot race held on the first weekend of September. Three thousand men from Cabras run barefoot dressed in white to the village of San Salvatore where they re-enact an ancient feud over a religious statue. The statue is carried back from San Salvatore. It is a tremendous spectacle to watch; physically exhausting and painful.
