Jiri Attractions & Activities - The Best Holiday Destinations for 2020
Jiri is a town in Central Nepal, and the nearest roadhead for trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp.
Understand
Jiri has no outstanding attractions, and as the bus from Kathmandu usually arrives in the early evening and most trekkers set out for the first day of their trek just after sun rise, few people spend any time here.
The town has a large army presence, so expect to have your backpack searched.
As it is about a seven day trek to Namche Bazaar, which many consider as the gateway to the Everest Region, only a small percentage of trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp actually begin their journey here, with most preferring to fly to Lukla, a two day walk to Namche. In addition, the the region between Lukla and Jiri had been under Maoist control for many years, and this has also acted as a disincentive for travelers to begin their journey in Jiri.
