WARNING: Severe floods have hit Thailand in September and October 2011 with more than 500 people confirmed dead. The flooding has hit 30 provinces, most of them in the central, lower northern and Isaan regions. Emergency evacuations are planned for the worst-hit provinces of Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Chai Nat, Chachoengsao, Lop Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Sawan, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Sing Buri and Uthai Thani. Bangkok has also been severely hit, all districts are on high alert, but flooding has been especially heavy in the city's northern and eastern districts. Travelling to these regions is highly discouraged.
Rail travel is severely strained — the Northern Line to Chiang Mai is completely out of order, while the Northeastern Line is rerouted via Chachoengsao (so expect significant delays). Bus travel is still possible, but many lines are rerouted causing heavy delays. Plan your trip carefully and follow the news for ongoing developments.
