Carate is located at a very nice spot on the ocean with endless, empty beaches. It is not a very easy place to travel to as a consequence of which it is a very quiet little village without any facilities.

The cabin we had was rustic but spacious, set in the rain forest and with a great view. 3 types of monkey could be seen,and she reports the birding was very good. We stayed 3 nights, and went to the same spot on the beach each day. Carate is definitely the place to see macaws. My wife also loves its remoteness and isolation.

We heard and saw spider monkeys, howlers monkeys. capuchin monkeys, Scarlet Macaws and toucans daily. We also saw tracks of tapirs. Knowing that big cats roam the premises adds even more to the appeal of this wonderful place. Yes it is a bumpy road to get to Carate but that is a good thing. It keeps the crowds away and the wildlife safer.ElsBelgium

The lodge has a comfortable environment centered around a pool and restaurant/common area that sit comfortably in the forest. Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, and monkeys are frequent visitors and easily viewed. Great meals with vegetarian/ non-vegetarian options are included with many ingredients grown on site. Good starting point to go into Corcovado NP.

Take advantage of the yoga hut on the top of the mountain - it has the most amazing views.
