Boasting many national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.
Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.
If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.
DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guest house booked through Booking.com.

Architecture is wonderful and free tours of many of the museums helps defray the cost of parking and Uber costs although Uber transportation was punctual and convenient. Be prepared for lengthy walks throughout the city and on site of attractions. Difficult to visit grocery markets as there seem to be few and parking is difficult to find if you drive your own vehicle. Most restaurant meals are expensive, but quality was good.

Amazing place to visit.
Amazing place to visit. Medium affordable food with more free things to do than anywhere I've ever been. Make sure to sign up early for Aerospace and African American museums. They are free, but you get an allotted time and pass and they where sold out days before I arrived. I went during spring break. Tons of beautiful architecture, not just the monuments. Plan to walk miles, though there are plenty of Uber options for when you're tired. Elephant and Castle was a surprising affordable option to eat with great food options and a nice bar while still being family friendly.

It is easy to get around to see all the landmarks, the Metro is perfect, quick, easy and cheap. You can use an e-scooter or e-bike available anywhere, lots of cafes, takeaway, restaurants and grocery shops. You can go on trips or do lots yourself, remember to book your free tickets to the smitsonian space and air well in advance - you need a ticket. Don’t forget to visit Arlington Cementry. You can catch the Metro from Ronald Reagan international airport to anywhere in the city - safe lots of money!

first time in DC and won't be the last - I loved this place!
first time in DC and won't be the last - I loved this place! The sights and history are a must for any visitor to the USA. Not only are most of the attractions free but the staff in these free facilities are also brilliant - I would like to single out the staff in the Capital Building across from the supreme court for their enthusiasm, courtesy and efficiency - they are a model of exceeding visitor expectations and they are a credit to the people who hired them! They are amazing ambassadors for their city. I might stay in Georgetown the next time I go to DC - great vibe and worthy of the hype.

Washington has so many attractions for visitors.
Washington has so many attractions for visitors. One of the highlights is Arlington Cemetery and particularly the 'Changing of the Guard' at the tomb of the unknown soldier. In addition to the White House, Capitol Hill, Lincoln Memorial, etc. there are numerous Smithsonian museums. Even though they are free to enter, some do require you to book the time of entry and these tend to book out quickly to reverse in advance of arriving in Washington. The city is very walkable but the if necessary the Metro is good and affordable to use. We purchased 3-day 'SmartTrip' cards at a cost of $30 and these covered both bus and metro trips. We were able to use the metro to access the airport (Dulles International) at the end of our stay (approx 50min journey time)
For good food, good service and value for money try the 'Cheese-Cake Factory', 'Tatte' or 'Le Pan Quotidien'.
This is a beautiful hotel in a very good part of DC, full of interesting houses and buildings, shops, restaurants, and even a world-class art gallery in walking distance. The building is old, but completely to date inside. Our compact but nicely done corner room had windows on two sides, and we could see over the building next door. The hotel restaurant was excellent, the minibar well stocked, and the bathroom had real tile instead of modern cheap materials.
Great customer service, very clean, good breakfast, good security the Valet parking is very expensive $56 but found a cheaper one across the street and parked there instead. Other than that everything about the hotel was great including my room I enjoyed the AMAZING view I had from that BIG Window. I will be staying there again the near future and will recommend it to my fam & friends.
This hotel is the Best location for a foreign tourist. It is very near Union Station for train rides from Dulles and metro rides. The circulator bus stop is also very near. There are many food options at the food court of Union Station. I was surprised to find out upon check out that this hotel is 100 years old. The free coffee machine at the 2nd floor is excellent for breakfast
The location is excellent, there are several ways to easily get there, by car or metro. The room was very comfortable, the bed and pillows were the best. Even though the hotel is undergoing renovation, the cleanliness was impeccable. All staff, from reception to housekeeping, very friendly and polite. Without a doubt it will be a hotel to return when visiting Washington again.
It was a good stay, posting this for information purpose. Mainly went to go to watch the Wizards game & it was only a 5 minute walk so that was a plus. They charge $100 security deposit per night just for the people wondering. & It’s a parking lot across the street that’s cheaper then what the hotel charge. It was nice & clean. Didn’t stay for breakfast or anything.
Staff is very nice and accommodating. We were luckily able to check-in early, but even if we weren’t there is a free vallet service to store your luggage. Hotel is central to all tourist attractions/areas. Located in the center of downtown DC. Anywhere we wanted to go outside the area was a cheap Uber ride away. Would definitely stay again.
Convenient location. This location is just 5 min away from Subway green line and There is a bus 70 right in front of the door that will drive you to down town. You can tour washington DC without a car.
It is spacious than a regular hotel room.
Nice smart TV.
Reasonable price.
The landlord is nice and responds our questions quickly.
This hotel was, for the price paid, exactly what you'd expect. It did the job in providing a clean, comfortable place to stay that was relatively close to the centre. Slightly dated, but again for the price I was willing to pay for Washington DC, it was exactly what was needed and served me well.
Arguably the best location while visiting Washington. Very clean and well designed room. Comfortable beds.
I returned to this hotel for the second time as it was so good.
The restaurant /bar at the top has a fantastic view over the White House, the Washington monument and Lincoln Memorial.
beautiful hotel in the best location in Washington between two metro station the room is gorgeous and big wonderful breakfast opportunities in the hotel and just across the street, excellent gourmet restaurant in the era great stuff
It was clean, staff was kind and helpful, lobby area was interesting and well decorated, location was good. There was no parking lot but staff helped get one close to the hotel which was way cheaper than other hotels’ options.
Great location - approx 1.5 mile walk to Washington Monument. Delicious breakfast. Extremely quite for city location & great value restaurant’s on 17th Street - cheaper than central DC
Price - twice cheaper than other hotels in downtown. Decent room size and amenities.
Very helpful and professional front desk staff & cleaners.
Hotel with 100+ years history!!
- Relatively cheap compared to other DC hotels and close to tourist areas and bus stop
- Room was surprisingly very clean despite oldness of it
- Shower pressure was good
