Carate is located at a very nice spot on the ocean with endless, empty beaches. It is not a very easy place to travel to as a consequence of which it is a very quiet little village without any facilities.

I loved this part of the world.
I loved this part of the world. Really friendly people and Finca Exotica was outstanding. Very important to know if you're driving yourself is how rough the road is on the way there with at least four river crossings, so be prepared! It was a great adventure.
My wife loves Playa Carate, and enjoyed her time at this lodge. (I went along as good hubbie, as nature is not my thing, so these are her views). The cabin we had was rustic but spacious, set in the rain forest and with a great view. 3 types of monkey could be seen, and she reports the birding was very good. We stayed 3 nights, and went to the same spot on the beach each day. Carate is definitely the place to see macaws. My wife also loves its remoteness and isolation.
This is the perfect place for nature lovers looking for some peace and quiet surrounded by gorgeous nature abundant with wildlife! We heard and saw spider monkeys, howlers monkeys. capuchin monkeys, Scarlet Macaws and toucans daily. We also saw tracks of tapirs. Knowing that big cats roam the premises adds even more to the appeal of this wonderful place.
Yes it is a bumpy road to get to Carate but that is a good thing. It keeps the crowds away and the wildlife safer.
Luna Lodge is a beautiful place with an amazing staff. The lodge has a comfortable environment centered around a pool and restaurant/common area that sit comfortably in the forest. Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, and monkeys are frequent visitors and easily viewed.
Great meals with vegetarian/ non-vegetarian options are included with many ingredients grown on site.
We spent 5 days over the Christmas holidays and it was the highlight of our time in Costa Rica.
Very nice setting directly on the beach, very friendly staff, loved the variety in meals, relaxing sound with the waves, private outdoor showers, easy arrangements for guided trips at day or at night, great to encounter the service of bringing our luggage from Carate to the lodge as it is a 3.5km walk on the beach. Good starting point to go into Corcovado NP.
The location makes this place great. Take advantage of the yoga hut on the top of the mountain - it has the most amazing views. We really liked the hiking trails on the property, and the road to the hotel (although a bit scary) is extremely beautiful, you won't regret it.
Great location. Natural setting surrounded by pristine rainforest. Cristhian, the host, is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He’s a true local, and an expert on the Osa Peninsula. Views from the cabins are fantastic.
By far one of the best "hotels" ever stayed. Location is breath taking, personell treat you as your family. We enjoyed every second of our stay and we will for certain come back again to dive in this pool of serenity.
Our stay in Luna Lodge was absolutely the highlight of our trip.
Everything I imagined and more.
Thank you to all for this unique experience.
Thank you Old OSA for accompanying us to the forest…
