Boasting many national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.
Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.
If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.
DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guest house booked through Booking.com.

We liked how fast the elevators and the fast the hot water worked, also how large the room was and that it had a fridge. The Cleaning lady helped fix the bathtub plug & was very nice & cheerful. Very polite & helpful elder gentleman helped us place our baggage in the holding room. Staff were pleasant & helpful. There is a CVS literally around the corner that was extremely useful with very accommodating and helpful staff. Viator was very helpful with tours that otherwise required prebooking.
We did not like that there was no microwave when we understood that there was supposed to be. Was a bit far from the metro, I'd stay closer next time if I was going to use it daily. Room was as far as possible from the elevator. The hift shop has misleading sale signs so ask specifics prior to purchasing. Then check the CVS prices around the corner to ward off buyer's remorse.

I think Washington DC is an underrated city.
I think Washington DC is an underrated city. Besides the obvious tourist areas, it has much more to offer (Georgetown, U-Street area) etc. It is not just bureaucrats living there, but also a vibrant local culture. Unfortunately, in the last few years, the poverty has become more visible.

DC is so far top two of my favorite cities in the US.
DC is so far top two of my favorite cities in the US. Everything was amazing, the city is clean and safe. Its a very walkable city with lots to see. Its great that there also free attractions like all the Smithsonian museums and even the zoo.
The food scene was great, lots of diverse food spots and even international foods.
The people were surprisingly warm and friendly, I didn't expect that from all the east coast stories I have heard.
The weather happened to be perfect too.

It is a live city pleasant to walk around and not any disturbance on the streets as well as if you know how to find there are beautiful Restaurants for dining pleasure. Ubers are readily available. But if you have to catch flight go little earlier for traffic time.

We went to attend the ACC Men's basketball tournament, but we use the off time to explore places in Washington, D.C. that we had not visited before. We got lucky that the cherry blossoms popped open during the week and we got to experience the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin. Using the metro made life so much easier as I really don't like the ride-share option (had scary experience one time in ride-share). When I go back, I know that I will need to look at the map and plan as much as possible in one area each day, as I did walk MANY steps when I wasn't on the metro.

It was OK...the transit system was nice.
It was OK...the transit system was nice. The location of the hotel we stayed in was in a great location. We walk to a restaurant/wine bar. We had a real nice time. People were nice. Prices were a little high, however we were in a tourist area. Felt stay and surprise by the nice environment. Would visit again. I would not stay at the District Hotel again.
* clean, spacious rooms
* big bathroom
* mostly good location for walking. It's 20 minutes on foot to either of Washington Monument, Tidal Basin, White House or Capitol. But keep in mind - there are very similar hotels for the same price with much better location (near White House for example)
* electric kettle in the room. That's a rare find and a pleasant find for those of us who prefer tea over coffee
Great location for seeing all the main Washington attractions. Quite close to the Capitol building and very close to Union Metro Station which we used extensively to get to some of the slightly farther away things.
We made extensive use of the free tea/coffee/chocoloate drinks from the self service area.
The Dubliner restaurant below the hotel was great for breakfasts and evening meals.
A lovely hotel set in the beautiful grounds of Gallaudet University campus. If required, all the staff can use sign language and are exceptional friendly. In particular, we must thank Paula, the deputy manager, for her hospitality. The hotel is a 2 mile flat walk through a nice residential area to Capitol Hill and the Smithsonian Museums, so perfect for a visit to see Washington.
The service and accommodations were great. All the staff offered a awesome service, very kindly and professional. The room was spacious and comfortable. Hotel location is perfect. Near Dupont Circle subway and bus stations, restaurants, grocery store and a CVS. Hotel Madera will be my first option for future visits to DC.
It was clean, the facilites all worked, and it had a 24-hour front desk. It's also in an excellent location for downtown Washington and the Smithsonian museums. The skeleton staff were friendly and helpful and the bed comfy.
The room had a microwave and a fridge, which made our stay comfortable and cheaper.
Great hotel. Top quality. I would rate it 4 or 5 stars and as good as the best hotels I have ever visited.
Everything was perfect, from the nice decor to the quality and size of the room to the restaurant and gym to the great location for visiting D.C. And great value for the quality.
Great location. Easy walk to White House and Hop on Hop off bus stop. Very close to a Wholefood Market and cheap eats. Room was clean and spacious. Beds very comfy. Big windows as well. We were very pleased with our choice. Hotel has a lovely bar and restaurant on site as well.
honestly super great hotel and had a bunch of restaurants nearby but none of the main attractions, which we didn’t want anyways. we could have found a cheaper hotel though, it was nice but so are a lot of places for less money and we got the king deluxe or something like that.
location is highly accessible and near metro station. It’s very near to the main tourist attractions. Very professional courteous and helpful staff. They allowed us for early check in and gave us room which has the best view. Room is very clean and comfortable.
Good location near museums and capitol but not a save area after working Hours. Only Mc Donald’s is near for dinner and, we had several issues with bathtub. Regarding parking, it’s cheapest to pay the ticket by your own than paying it with the hotel. None sense!
This was the cheapest option to stay in central Washington DC. It was nice to to meat and discuss with local people. There is a metro and citybike station very close. The neighbourhood feels safe except for the street of the hostel itself.
Fantastic location in the heart of Washington DC. A beautiful hotel with an exceptional quality of finish. The property exceeded our expectations and a night cap at the bar was a great way to finish our day.
The room was quite big (2 full beds), the location was great, the staff didn't constantly bothered me knocking to see if I wanted to clean my room, like most hotels, the cheapest for what I needed.
It is in a quite central location in Washington DC and there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel. Even though the hotel is old and dated, it was very clean and the staff is very helpful.
Mary at the front desk was wonderful. All of the staff that we encountered at The Hotel Washington were super friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to make out stay so nice.
Staff was very friendly. The hotel was cheap compared to others listed in the area at the time and surprisingly had really good rooms, gym and breakfast.
