Suriname's 10 administrative districts can be grouped into three regions:

Regions of Suriname

Surinamese East Coast
The most urban part of the country, including Paramaribo, Albina and the Galibi Nature Reserve

Surinamese West Coast
Largest village is Nieuw Nickerie, a city that has been moved twice (in 1870 and 1879) because of erosion, now it is protected by a sea wall. It has many Guyanese immigrants.

Surinamese Rainforest
A vast region of natural beauty, most of it unexplored even by advanced travellers. Also includes Onverwacht, Paranam, the Brokopondo Reservoir and the waterfalls of the magnificent Brownsberg Nature Park
