WARNING: On 11th March 2011 the city was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 followed by a tsunami and several aftershocks. Only suburbs were affected but today there is very little evidence of any disaster having occurred here at all. Buses and services to Sendai from the rest of Japan have been in operation since the end of April. The city is back to normal and safe for travel. |
Sendai (仙台) is the largest city (about 1,000,000 people) in the Tohoku region of Japan's Honshu island.
