WARNING: On 11th March 2011 the eastern coast of Tohoku was hit by an earthquake with a 9.0 magnitude followed by a tsunami and several aftershocks. The coastline has been devastated by flooding, and radiation leaks from power plants have caused even more concern in Fukushima Prefecture. Much of the area is slowly beginning to recover and relief efforts are being conducted in coastal areas. Although trains are not operating on normal schedules, most of the region (including Fukushima Aidu-District(Aidu-Wakamatsu etc.) is now safe to travel to with the exception of Fukushima Hama-Dori(coast side), which still possesses serious radiation risks. Travelers should continue avoiding Fukushima Hama-Dori. |
