If you are travelling to or from Cologne (Airport code CGN, also Köln), an unforgettable experience is the ICE high-speed train run. The direct Wiesbaden-Köln ICE reaches a top speed of 300 kph. However, there are only two direct trains a day in both directions; the morning trains depart between 06:20 and 07:00, while the evening trains depart between 16:45 and 17:10. The journey takes about one hour. There are several other indirect trains available with one connection, the travel times for these is between 1:30 and 2:15. If you are able to buy a ticket three days or more in advance, you will get the best price on long-distance ICE trains with the Sparpreis (Savings Fare). For day trips between Wiesbaden and Cologne, you can also check out the Freizeit-Ticket. It's a roundtrip fare for 40 EUR which is only allowed on direct ICE trains.
