Gothenburg has a nice network of bicycle paths, reaching all parts of the city. You can rent a bike from Cykelkungen or if you are staying at a hostel they can often provide it for you. You can buy network maps at the tourist information centres, and you can find an online version below.
As of 2010-08 there is loan bikes in Gothenburg
You can bring your bike on the ferries, on some trains but not on trams or buses. The service is free on Älvsnabben but cost 10 SEK on the ferries in the southern archipelago.
