Colon is a very dangerous city, and rarely on the tourist itinerary due to the risks of becoming the next victim. Walking around is not advisable.
I visited Colon December 20, 2008 and was not allowed by the police to walk around. My movements were very much restricted to being forced to drive in a taxi two blocks to go shopping? I was allowed to walk Central Blvd, but only during the day and because the police had squads located on each corner.(Matilda Duffy 12 26 2008)
