The food situation is always changing now and has gone from simple dishes like fried rice to Belgium stew soaked in Guinness. How you choose to eat in the area will depend upon your budget and personal preferences. The following is a small preview of what you might expect.
  • Mr Mans restaurant (opposite Mr Mans accommodation) has an excellent and inexpensive menu. Try their lentil curry and rice soup.
  • Adam's Bar and Restaurant is located at the main Northern tip of Don Det. Adam's claims to sell the best burgers and meatballs on the island. It is also the only bar on the island and is able to host open mic acoustic sets and late night private party's and Bbq's at 24 hours notice. At Adam's you can also get the latest movies, music, and TV series uploaded directly onto your ipod, mp3, hard drive, and computer with in minutes. Adam's entertainment includes a free DVD lounge, plunge pool, darts, and a Nintendo Wii.
  • 4000 Island Bar[[ ] located on the main sunrise strip by the beach is an excellent restaurant serving Asian and Western food. Stunning views of the Mekong along with the islands best pool table and all the latest DvD's to relax too, home away from home. English speaking staff. New addition to the bar is proper broadband WiFi.
  • Paradise Restaurant is the first and still only restaurant on the island that is 100�% free of MSG (Monosodium glutamate). Located about 10 minutes from the town center, it serves island food and is noted for its lentil curry pumpkin. Even the French rave about the pancakes here. The menu has a wide variety of foods. Large portions.
  • King Kong restaurant located in the south of Don Det has an ever increasing array of Western foods, including excellent pizza, fish and chips and Sunday roasts. It's famous for the King Kong double cheeseburger. The owner, Mini is quite a friendly and cordial guy, always ready for a poker game.
  • For authentic homestyle Laotian cooking Mr. Vong's restaurant approximately 500 meters north of the bridge offers very good local food. The proprietor speaks some of the best English on the island and is a wealth of local information.
  • The Veggie Patch is a small organic farm and restaurant located halfway along the sunset coast. Built and established by a French/Australian couple, they create some of the best vegetarian/Western food on the island. Cooking a different meal each day and all baked in a charming little wood-fired clay oven, their meals include lasagna, ratatouille tart, pumpkin gnocchi and tasty savoury crepes, all served with a salad and freshly baked bread. Also, try one of their delicious house-made cakes with custard or ice-cream. But if food isn’t what you are after you can also just take a drink and get involved in a game of petanque, badminton or football, or simply laze around reading a book in one of the hammocks.
