The nearest town is Ipoh.
From Ipoh, you can catch the Kinta Omnibus buses to Tanah Rata from Medan Kidd bus terminal (5 min walk from the train station). The cost is RM16.80 and there are 4 services per day (8AM, 11AM, 3PM, 6PM, Travel time to to Tanah Rata is around 2.5 hr). The air-conditioned buses are quite old, but the timings are quite reliable. The buses travel via Simpang Pulai and do stop along the way at towns such as Kampong Raja and Brinchang. Just let the driver know before hand, or press the bell when nearing the town.
From Kuala Lumpur, buses to Tanah Rata can be caught at Puduraya Central Bus Station and take about 4.5 hr. Look around the ticket counters to find the various companies although they don't always have buses running at the advertised times. Online booking services are also available. If you buy a ticket online you may need to check in at the bus companies counter before boarding a bus.
Buses leave between 8.30AM-3.30PM, but more buses run in the morning. Prices range from RM20-RM39.
From Singapore, overnight VIP buses run from the Golden Mile tower/complex. Coach companies such as Grassland and Fivestar charge between SGD$55-SGD$65 depending on the day and time of travel. Travelling time to Cameron Highlands is around 10 hr stopping at Ringlet, Lakehouse, Brinchang Hotel, Equatorial Hotel, Heritage Hotel and Tanah Rata.
