What camel riding is in Jaisalmer, horseback riding is in Udaipur, a must! Situated in the middle of the Aravalli-Mountains, Udaipur offers a fantastic landscape and unrivaled views. Various operators offer horse rides here:
Princess Trails, run by an Indo-German couple is the best option. They have around 15 very well kept Marwari horses and always some foals and young ones on their farm, approximately 8 km outside Udaipur. They organize trail rides for individual riders and small groups of 2 hours, 4 hours and full day through the tribal villages of the Aravalli foothills and also arrange overnight accommodation in comfortable Swiss Tents (with attached bathroom, AC and private terrace) on their farm. Horseback lessons and nature hikes are also arranged and non-riding companions can spend a relaxing morning/afternoon in the garden of their farm with a beautiful Hollywood swing.
They offer free pick up from the hotels in town and have a collection of riding helmets and half-chaps which they lend out to their riders.
Longer horseback safaris with overnight stays in a Safari Camp, are also arranged.

Krishna Ranch
Another popular choice. At Krishna Ranch the owner of the ranch, Dinesh, guides all rides himself. He has lots of knowledge about the area and speaks excellent English. All rides pass through the beautiful Arravali mountain-range and small traditional villages. All their beautiful Marwari horses are well trained and very well looked after. Groups are small (max.5) to provide the highest level of safety. Possibilities: 2.5 hours, half day and full day rides, with free pick up and lunch
Possibility to stay at their beautiful ecological farm in well appointed rural cottages. The farm has 14 Marwari horses, cows, goats and lush fields fields with a variety of crops.
Excellent vegetarian meals are provided. Same people run Hotel Kumbha Palace, 104 Bhattiyani Chohatta in Udaipur town. Highly recommended!
