Toyama is a popular starting point for day expeditions to climb Tateyama. Return trip tickets can be purchased from Toyama Dentetsu station (next to JR Toyama), for about ¥5000. An early start is advised and so is checking the weather beforehand. The journey comprises about one hour by train, then a transfer to the Bijodaira cable car (funicular), followed by a 50 minute bus trip.
