Besides French, Catalan is also spoken in the south-eastern corner (Roussillon, Cerdagne). The language that used to be spoken in the whole south of France, called Occitan (or Langue d'Oc), is still spoken in some villages and is actively recovered by some associations in the big cities (manily Carcassone, Béziers, Montpellier, Narbonne).
