The only sight of worth of the Silent Night Chapel located near the river. This is the original site of the church where Franz Gruber added the melody to Joseph Mohr's poem on Christmas in early 19th century, thereby creating the Christmas carol "Silent Night" and performing with guitar and vocals for the first time. The church was damaged by the flood since, and the town did not have enough money to repair it, so it was demolished. Today, a small chapel (Silent Night Chapel) stands on the spot, bringing visitors. Next to the Chapel are Joseph Mohr's home and a Museum. The two-story museum has a gift shop on the first floor and the museum on the second floor. Various displays on Mohr, Gruber, and Silent Night upstairs, but as of 2005, only in German. Visitors who do not speak German will be given a sheet of paper in their languages with explanations of the Chapel and Silent Night, but it's a poor substitute. There is a small charge for the Museum. The first-floor gift shop sells various Silent Night-themed items, such as candles, snowglobes, etc.
