Orientation in Brighton (England)

Brightonians often give directions relative to a prominent landmark, the Clocktower, which stands due south of the rail station at the bottom of Queen's Road and the top of West Street. Western Road, a major shopping street runs East-West through the intersection. If you turn right walking down, and walk half-way down Western Rd., the Lanes will be in the side streets on your left, and the North Laine area off on the right. If you continue to the eastern end of Western Rd., the Pier will be on your right, the Old Steine and St James's St. ahead of you, and the Royal Pavilion to your left.
