Shizuishan attractions

  • Cliff Carvings in Helan Mountain. Done by Chinese nomads some 10,000 years ago, they run the gamut from portraits and totems to scenes of hunting, grazing, war and dance.
  • Scenic Shahu Lake. Consists of desert (an island of sand) and surrounding lake and marshlands. The reed marshes around the lake are habitats for more than 1 million birds in 190 or so kinds, including swans and red-crested cranes. The entrance fee, including transportation to the island by slow boat, was ¥140 in July 2010. On the island there are many attractions like camel riding, sand sliding, a cableway, etc, costing from ¥30 up to ¥150 or more (July 2010). There's also a nice little beach where you can go swimming for ¥30.
