Stay Safe in Jackson (Mississippi)

Stay Safe in Jackson (Mississippi)

  • Not to broadly paint entire areas with the same paint brush; but generally speaking, historically the areas of the city that have had the highest crime problems were the areas west and southwest of I-55 (using highways I-55 and I-20 to the divide the city into four quadrants) of the city.
  • Use the same precautions as you would in any large metropolitan city. Protect your vehicle by locking it up and activating the alarm system, do not advertise yourself as wealthy or as a tourist. If an area of the city looks dilapidated, use common sense and promptly leave to more secure grounds.
  • The following streets have historically been considered pretty rough areas with high crime, and may be best avoided by casual tourist: Woodrow Wilson, Ellis Avenue, Robinson Road, and West Capital Street. There's really not much of interest to tourist on those streets anyway.
