The rock is 4km out of town on Wave Rock Rd. The 14m high curving face of the granite wave is streaked red and yellow along the 110m length. Some say that it is only worth spending 15mins there before the novelty wears out but really you could realistically spend twice that if you arrive in the early morning or late afternoon and watch the way the colour of the rock changes with the moving shadows. If you do need another distraction, a 3.6km walking track lead up and over the rock linking the nearby Hippos Yawn, a rock that looks like a hippo with mouth agape and the town dam. Entry to all the sites is free, though a $7 parking fee is payable if you leave your car in carpark right in front of wave rock (to the left of the caravan park entrance). Frugal travellers can park at The Breakaways, just below the town dam and walk 200m to the wave or park at the Hippos yawn and walk about 1km to the wave for free. It's a nice walk too.
