A friendly authentic farmhouse with gîtes and BandB in a tranquil setting - a step back in time. One for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, beach lovers Twenty minutes from the border - temptingly close to the Costa Brava - is a Catalan farmhouse built in 1896, fronted by old plane trees and surrounded by vines. Plump chickens, young goats, and delightful Nelly and Geraud greet you. They bought the former wine domaine in 2012 and have renovated the mas themselves; today it’s a sprawling maze of a building with all sorts of accommodation, aimed at cyclists and walkers. Ecurie 4 – one of several stables – spreads itself over two floors: upstairs, three bedrooms under chunky beams (one ensuite); downstairs, a kitchen, living room, double bedroom and two bathrooms. It would be great for one large relaxed family or a group of friends. Bedrooms and bathrooms are simple and traditional, heating is included but towels are extra (unless you bring yours), and bikes are on site. Fire up the barbecue in your shaded gravelled outdoor space, browse books and papers in the communal sitting room, join the other guests at breakfast or dinner - be sure to book.
