Hotel Fonda Vela in Monteverde is an ideal destination for relaxing and enjoying the wonders of the tropics. Paul Jr´s family, built the Hotel to be a nurturing experience - personally, environmentally, culturally, and spiritually. The feelings that brought us here over 1990´s are what we want to share with you, our guests. The 35-acre property is surrounded by virgin and secondary forest areas with a 1 1/2km (1 mile) trail to let you enjoy the cloud forest. You will find lush forest and verdant pastures, excellent for bird watching and hiking. In this tranquil setting, it is possible to see resplendent Quetzals, the rare Three-wattled Bellbird, an abundance of orchids, parrots and toucans that come to feed in the wild fruit trees. Throughout the Fonda Vela you will find paintings of our father, Paul Warren Smith, an early settler of the property. Dad’s works, along with other artists of Monteverde, reflect peaceful living in harmony with our planet.
